FF 2021 Scrimshaw Warrens

Imagine if you will, a frozen land with many secrets. Besides the shops hidden away in the ice caves along the path, Scrimshaw Warrens is the home of tabletop gaming for Fantasy Faire 2021. 

If you ever played Dungeons & Dragons or any of the myriad of tabletop adventure games that followed it, this may spark memories. If you never played D&D or the myriad of games that followed, come take a class or watch a game to see what it's all about. Some of the groups continue their adventures throughout the year meeting in chatrooms or getting together in SL.

You may see strange and wonderous beings lurking along the paths as you travel through this cold and vaguely disturbing region.  I've been haunting the cliffs wearing looks compiled from shops throughout Fantasay Faire. 

I love the way the wings and tail from Aii pick up BOM skin and tattoo textures to blend perfectly with the body. Any tattoos you wear will appear in some manner on the wings. Above, the wings have picked up the feather patterns from the Aii Avian Ibrida tattoos in my bodysuit. Below, they show the runes from my leg tattoo. All Aii products come with color and texture huds to further personalize them.

FF 2021 The Quest!

One of the most popular activities at Fantasy Faire is the Quest. 

This event within an event takes questors all over Fantasy Faire in search of information and items to aid the Bard Queen in her battle against the UnWeaver. 

This year's chapter is called The Language of the Birds.

William and I are modeling this year's EXCLUSIVE outfits created by Bee Dumpling and Solas Enchantment from Silvan Moon Designs. Terra Volitant made the helper birds we have on our shoulder. You need to purchase a hud in order to do the Quest, but if you are successful in completing it, you will receive goods that far exceed the cost of the hud!

Purchase of the Hud is a 100% donation to Relay for Life. Both outfits are included with the Deluxe Quest Hud for a donation of L$350; a Quest Hud without the outfits is available for a donation of L$250 at any of the FF 2021 regional landing points. .

FF 2021 Tempest Bay and Cerulean Bombora

Sunday I visited the unassuming seaport town of Tempest Bay and its extention, Cerulean Bombora, in the Fairelands. 

It seemed a quiet place. There may be a few pirate flags flying and a cannon or two conveniently placed around the town, but generally speaking, the shopkeepers and residents mind their own business and try to keep a low profile. 

The dock was rockin' Sunday at a party held in conjunction with the RFL One Team. Corwyn Allen's music tended to be folksy and nautical and the assembled listeners loved it!

I found my outfit @ [QE] Designs in Tempest Bay. This outfit is available in dark and light texture huds. I couldn't decide which I liked best, so I got both. Look for the RFL vendors throughout Fantasy Faire. The merchants donate 50 - 100% of the sales from items in these vendors to Relay for Life.

FF 2021 The Fairechylde and The Dark Awakening Region

One of the most popular destinations in Fantasy Faire is the Fairechylde, the huge party ship. At one time it was a literal airship carried by a dragon that moved from place to place around the Fairelands. Part of the fun of attending a party aboard the old Fairechylde was trying to locate it. You knew you were a real Fairelander if you could find the ship and fly aboard without incident. That became less of a challenge a few years ago when the Fairechylde was docked in one location. 

The Fairechylde in the Dark Awakening has been given a new look and a much larger dance floor. Small ships have been added to starboard and port for even more dance area.  When I attended Tamlorn Carterhaugh Wood's / RFL One Team Ball on Friday night, there was plenty of space on the main deck for 6 couples to do formal court dances with room for regular couples' dances and singles. 

After the Ball, I ran down the path wearing my ball gown like some fairytale princess. I wasn't trying to get home before midnight; I was headed to the banks of gachas that are another feature of the region.

FF 2021 The Entertainment Region of Paer Thura

Friday morning found me sitting on a floating flower in Paer Thura chatting with other excited audience members as time approched for a choreographed introduction to some of the principal Scandinavian Goddesses. 

Presented by the Night Theater on a stage build to represent Yggdrasil, the show was called Yggi.

Director, DJ and Dancer, Aelva, and her troupe presented 45 minutes of wonderful dances, beautiful costumes, great scenery and a little bit of literary information between the scenes.

I couldn't have asked for a better start to my day at Fantasy Faire! With a name like "Shieldmaiden", I may be a little biased, but I thought it was pretty close to perfect. 

Yggi will be performed again on Thursday @ 12 SLT.  Calendar of Events

Welcome Home, Fairelanders!

...was the common greeting as Fantasy Faire 2021 appeared out of the mists and the portals opened to the public. 

Indeed, for many of the merchants, support folks and Fantasy Faire Fans, it did seem like a homecoming, but home has changed! 

With 21 new regions, there will be lots to explore over the next few weeks. 

Fantasy Faire runs from April 22 ~ May 9.

While folks were pouring into the Junction on their way to adventures, a lot of those who had been running around in a frenzy putting finishing touches on the magic were partying on the Fairechylde, which has had a complete makeover and has even more room. After working so hard to get things ready, it was time to celebrate!

Fantasy Faire is the biggest yearly event in SL and is a major contributor to the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life.This picture shows the amazing Zander Green DJing the first official party for this year's Faire. 

The time was 12:01 pm slt, one minute after the Faire opened to the public. The L$ amount on the sign shows how much the merchants and support staff had donated even before the portals opened.

Fantasy Faire 2021 April 22 - May 9, 2021

Like a delightful fairytale, the regions of Fantasy Faire 2021 will be rising from the mists @ NOON April 22. There will be 21 regions this year: fifteen shopping regions and six special regions, bringing the final count to twenty-one. 21 for 2021!

Allow yourself lots of time to visit the Faire; you definitely can't see everything in a day... or even in several days because there are constant activities and things change from day to day. This isn't one of those events that you can run through in an hour. Plan to join the group so that you will hear about the activities that appeal to you the most and enjoy the experience!

Throughout the Faire you will see Kiosks marked Relay for Life. This is how you can easily donate to the American Cancer Society. Each of the merchants also has special items in American Cancer Society vendors with 50-100% of the proceeds going to Relay for Life. 

You're welcome to come in your fantasy garb and unusual avatars. 

Expect to see all sorts of characters and creatures from every imaginable source. Just remember, like any large SL event, keep your scripts as low as possible by leaving unnecessary huds and accessories at home. 

Prepare to embrace the Lag. We have a special name for her. She is Baba Laga, a rather grumpy being, who plots to ruin your fun, so plan wisely and embrace her warmly.  She may be so surprised by your friendliness and consideration for others she leaves you alone. Most importantly, HAVE A GOOD TIME!

When Second Life Becomes First Life

Those sheltering at home have discovered what many long-time SL residents already knew: SL contacts with friends can be every bit as rich and important as the face to face ones. 

I'm celebrating my 12th rezday by... what else?... hanging out in SL!
