Dept. of Discarded Curiosities
Wednesday @ Fantasy Faire, I joined a LitFest Tour and Writing Challenge group as they visited the Dept. of Discarded Curiosities.
The idea behind the tours is to explore a sim and write a short story inspired by the sim.
A facilitator takes a group around and asks questions designed to spark story ideas. The sim was interesting and the special music set by DJ, Astoria Luminos, was perfect to create a mood. Some amazing stories have come from these sessions. You can hear them being read at FantasyFaireRadioSL
If you want to try your hand at writing about the Faire but don't care to be part of a group or find that the tour times don't work for you, there are self-guided writing tours available in Trollhaugen, or by clicking HERE. You will receive a packet of LMs and story prompts to get you started. You can submit your finished works in the mailbox near the prompts or at the email listed on the webpage.
There is something very familiar about this build. It resembles the inside of my mind: partial memories, snippets of song, bizarre dreams and oh, so many books! There are pretty things as well: rainbows, glitter, pixie dust and unicorns. The stores are a bit "different" in DDC. One has find the doors in the upside down houses and climb over and around piles of books that comprise the rest of the shops. Just follow the paths and you should be fine.
I got totally distracted by the Pathway of Posters. It's comprised of fliers and posters from past Fantasy Faires, as well as hunt posters and performance announcements from many years and venues in SL. In a way, the pathway encompasses my experiences in SL, a series of challenging events and fun times leading from one to another through a decade of change.
Hmmmm... sounds like the possible start of a story. Excuse me. I have some writing to do.
