Día de los Muertos @ The Bradbury Project

  • Though it's celebrated at the same time of year, Día de los Muertos is a very different celebration from Hallowe'en.
  • Día de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition celebrated on November 1 and 2, honoring deceased loved ones with altars (ofrendas), marigolds, sugar skulls, and visits to cemeteries.
  • The Bradbury Project presented by the Seanchai Library offers interactive live readings and other themed activities featuring worldwide celebrations honoring the Dead based on Ray Bradbury's book, The Halloween Tree.
  • I've read this book every October since it was published in 1972. My favorite part of the story has always been the section on Día de los Muertos. I love the idea that people honor their departed loved ones by building altars of their favorite things and invite them to come visit. No jump scares, no demented ghosts or buckets of blood, just the family visiting and remembering the ones have passed beyond the veil.
