Fantasy Faire 2022 Mythspire Ridge

What do you do at Fantasy Faire? Part 2

Continuing the list from my last blog, here are some more of the things we do at Fantasy Faire:

We attend the Literacy Festival, which is an integral part of the Faire Activities.

The Lit Fest is based in Mythspire Ridge. The region has lots of comfortable seating areas for audiences as well as offering some shopping in case you arrive early for a scheduled activity and want to do a little RFL donating as you wait.

Attend a Film Festival or Storytelling session. Meet SL authors and would-be authors and take a guided tour of one of the regions. Tours leave the Gathering Point at 1 pm and 5 pm daily. You will be given insights into the mythology of each region and are encouraged to write something based on what you saw on the tour. Special DJs provide atmospheric music during the tour to help your creative juices flow.

We Hunt! The event-wide quest hasn't started yet (Just ignore the date on the announcement page. When dealing with magick, dates are more like suggestions, not rules!) But if you'd like to sharpen up your hunting skills in preparation for the Quest, several of the regions are having region or store wide hunts. See the list of additional adventures HERE.

Fantasy Faire 2022 Role Play in Hunros Mine

"So what do you do at Fantasy Faire?" I actually had someone ask me that. Someone who has been in SL for years. Someone who lives in a fantasy realm. (I might add, someone who seldom leaves their own region and has little idea what else is going on in Second Life...)

OMG! What do we do???

We Explore. There are 20 regions in Fantasy Faire 2022. Each region has a unique theme and is designed to be a fully immersive experience that will take you far beyond your wildest dreams. The pictures here were taken at Hunros Mine, just one of the regions in Fantasy Faire

We Shop! There are 340 Shops throughout the Faire. As you shop you also donate to Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society because the merchants each have kiosks that donate all or part of the purchase price to RFL. Some of the merchants donate everything they make during the 3 weeks of the Faire.

If you scan in on the picture above, you'll see that the building in the center is actually a store; you can just make out the vendors if you look closely. The shops in all regions are so well integrated into the landscaping, you may just miss them if you aren't looking for them.

We Role Play. The earnest conversation around the sausages in this picture was the intro to the role play presented by The Children of Stories, an on-going experience that is part interactive theater and part game. They invite you to follow along on their adventures throughout the course of the Faire.

Fantasy Faire 2022 Masked Ball in Sunken Honey

Welcome to Fantasy Faire, where parties abound! Faire-goers dressed to the nines gathered at the Formal Masked Ball held Sunday, April 24 on the roof of the honeycombs in the Sunken Honey region. Below the dancefloor is a fascinating build full of art galleries and bears.

Another Formal Masked Ball will be held Saturday April 30 at 6-8 pm slt. You are invited to attend, but don't feel as though you have to wait for a formal event. There is always something going on at Fantasy Faire and spontaneous parties have been known to grow out of a few folks running into each other in a region and deciding it's time to dance.

Check the Calendar HERE to see where parties are scheduled during the time you plan to visit Fantasy Faire. We have some of the best DJs and live performers on the grid, all of whom have donated their time and talents to help raise funds for Relay for Life.

Fantasy Faire 2022 Necturn Moon

Exploring Fantasy Faire is more fun with a friend. Luckily, I ran into my friend, Pisenor, who offered me a ride. It's nice to have company and he has a much better sense of direction than I do!

This region lies under a huge full moon with moonlike orbs growing abundantly in a nocturnal landscape. Though it isn't like any land one may have visited before, there is a feeling of familiarity about it. Nature is reborn as the roots of the earth carry the healing magic of the Equinox moon to all. There is a sense of health and growth even though the sky might be dark.

You can find all sorts of friendly creatures in Necturn Moon. The region is sponsored by Jinx, which not only provides ___-taur avatar mods of all sorts, but offers animated pets, wildlife and mounts of various species.

If you find the thought of living as a centaur intriguing, join the Ancient Order of Centaurs at the Jinx store. The group is active year-round.

Fantasy Faire 2022 Day 1

Fantasy Faire 2022 got off to an amazingly smooth start Thursday.

FF Fans waited patiently as the Merchants, Ministers and World Builders raised power aboard the Fairechylde till the mists covering the 20 regions in this year's Faire vanished and the cry went out: "Welcome Home!"

Indeed, for many of us, Fantasy Faire is like coming home. We wait all year for the beauty, the enthusiasm and the madness which is Fantasy Faire. We know we will only have a short time in these magic realms, and we run from region to region exclaiming in delight as new wonders appear around every turn.

I hope you will join us as we celebrate Life and remember those who have gone before in a massive fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Fantasy Faire 2022 April 21 - May 8

Fantasy Faire 2022 will be rising from the mists @ NOON April 21.

Here is my annual list of suggestions for surviving Fantasy Faire:

Allow yourself lots of time to visit the Faire; you definitely can't see everything in a day... there are 20 regions packed to the rafters with shopping and activities. This isn't one of those events that you can run through in an hour.

Plan to join the Fantasy Faire Fans group to maximize your experience. You will hear about the activities that will appeal to you the most, as well as being able to chat and interact with other Fairlelanders !

Throughout the Faire you will see Kiosks marked Relay for Life. This is the biggest fund raising event in Second Life and you will be reminded frequently to donate to the American Cancer Society. Besides free-standing kiosks, each of the merchants has special items in American Cancer Society vendors with 50-100% of the proceeds going to Relay for Life. It's why we're here and it will make you feel good to donate.

You're welcome to come in your fantasy garb and unusual avatars. Expect to see all sorts of characters and creatures from every imaginable source. Just remember, like any large SL event, keep your scripts as low as possible by leaving unnecessary huds and accessories at home.

Prepare to embrace the Lag. Fantasy Faire has a special name for her. She is Baba Laga, a rather grumpy being, who plots to ruin your fun, so plan wisely and embrace her warmly. She may be so surprised by your consideration for others she leaves you alone. Lowering your script level and complexity will make the Faire more fun for you and for everyone else as well.

I.M.Collection Makes Sense for April

When traveling, it makes sense to wear things that serve multiple purposes such as this fashionable look from I.M.Collection @ the April round of Sense, now through May 8.

I wore it to visit Badu Egypt, an interesting mix of a posh hotel with convenient access to a museum and an interactive pyramid experience.

You must accept the offered hud in order to fully appreciate the pyramid, but you can hang out in the hotel and the market, where these pictures were taken, without using the hud.

Jumpsuit and optional semi-sheer Shrug from I.M.C come with a hud of 6 colors. The jumpsuit bodice is beautifully textured with sparkly accented lace panels; the legs are satiny or metallic depending on your sky settings when using Advanced Lighting.
